preference servicesThe Telephone Preference Service (TPS) helps to make sure your telephone number is no longer available to companies who want to telephone you with offers and information you do not wish to receive.Under Government legislation introduced in 1999, it is unlawful to make direct marketing calls to individuals who have indicated that they do not wish to receive them. Registration with the TPS should stop all such calls. You can register your telephone number with the TPS in the following ways: online: at www.tpsonline.org.uk telephone: by calling the registration line on 0845 070 0707. You will be asked to record the telephone number you wish to register, and leave your name and address so that the registration can be confirmed in writing. fax: you can fax your request, including your name, telephone number and address to 0845 070 0706. writing: you can write, giving your name, telephone number and address to: Registration will take 28 days to take effect.
Under Government legislation introduced in 1999, it is unlawful to send individuals and sole traders unsolicited marketing promotional faxes without obtaining their prior permission. This legislation did not extend to businesses however. Businesses can register their fax numbers with the FPS if they do not wish to receive such promotional material. Companies using fax marketing are legally obliged to ensure that they do not fax numbers that are registered with the FPS.
