PHONEPAYPLUS PUBLISHES HALF-YEAR SUMMARY

PhonepayPlus has today published its half-year summary covering April to September 2007. The summary highlights, among other things, falling levels of complaints about phone-paid services, increased use of our online number checking service and our success in meeting Key Performance Indicators in a number of areas. It also outlines our key activities for the next six months.

LETTER FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE

PhonepayPlus has today written to all service providers operating live 1-2-1 chat services (including services operating on ‘Babe TV' channels), recorded sexual entertainment services, and virtual chat/chat & dating services. In an open letter, PhonepayPlus Chief Executive George Kidd expresses serious concerns about services that do not comply with the PhonepayPlus Code of Practice, and sets out the regulator's expectations and the steps it will take to ensure compliance.

INDEPENDENT APPEALS BODY ADJUDICATION

Following an Oral Hearing in December 2006 which resulted in fines totalling £40,000 and a 12-month bar to the service being imposed, service provider Global Access SL appealed against the sanctions. The adjudicator's final decision is now available.

PHONEPAYPLUS TO APPLY CODE OF PRACTICE TO 0871 NUMBERS

PhonepayPlus has today published a Statement of Application setting out how it proposes to apply its Code of Practice to services offered on 0871 numbers, which it will assume regulatory responsibility for in 2008. PhonepayPlus believes that its proposals will boost consumer confidence in the use of 0871 numbers by setting clear rules governing price transparency.
